Learn more about the Pathway Project
Questions about pathways? We have answers!
Will homeowners be responsible for shoveling and salting?
No, homeowners will not be responsible for snow removal or salting any pathway along their property.
Where are we adding more pathways in Elm Grove?
The current plan calls for adding pathways along major arterial roads within the village, including Highland Dr (in progress), Juneau Blvd, Gebhardt (complete), Gremoor, and Hollyhock.
Is there any cost to property owners for pathway installation?
There are no direct costs to property owners for installing pathways. Pathways are paid for out of the transportation fund, which includes roads and bridges. Property tax increases are limited by the State.
What can I do to help make this initiative more of a priority?
There are a number of ways to get involved. You can sign our petition, talk to your neighbors, donate, and buy village apparel.
What is the pathway project timeline?
The current plan calls for building a pathway every year, with projects ranked according to vehicular traffic as determined by the Wisconsin DOT and lack of safe walking/biking lane along the road.
How do pathways impact my property value?
Walkability benefits both commercial and residential property values. The National Association of Realtors highlights one study that showed house values averaged $82 more per square foot in walkable areas when compared to homes in less walkable areas.
Are pathways really a safety issue?
Yes, data shows drivers hit and killed more than 7,500 pedestrians in 2022, the most in 41 years. Pedestrian deaths are also increasing much faster than all other traffic deaths. We have included the graphics below to illustrate the trend.
Did we miss something? Send us your questions, comments, or concerns!
We promise to try our best to respond as soon as we can! We’d love to hear your ideas on how we can build pathways together for a safer, more connected Elm Grove.
Current projects are prioritized according to traffic volume, estimated pedestrian use, and overall safety. The pathways in development are along Highland Dr (in progress), Juneau Blvd, Gebhardt (complete), Gremoor, and Hollyhock.
